Since the implementation of the new Law of Environmental Protection on Jan. 1, 2015, China has made 292 successive punishments with the total penal sum up to 200 million yuan. There are 1,814 cases of sealing up or distraint of property, 1,092 cases of production restriction or suspension, 782 cases of administrative detention and 740 cases of committing suspected environmental pollution crime, according to a statement made by China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection on August 5.
In the first half of 2015, China conducted more than 620,000 environmental protection checks on enterprises, among which, 15,839 enterprises were ordered to suspend production, 9,325 were shut down and 23,227 were fined.
Since the beginning of 2015, the Ministry of Environmental Protection has talked with the official in charge of ten cities and asked the local environmental supervision centers to talks with the leaders in charge of Changchun, Changzhou, Linyi, Chengde, Luliang, Ziyang, Wuxi and Ma’anshan. A total of 57 local officials have been reprimanded, warned or relieved from their post after these interviews.
