Aussie miner Altura signs lithium supply deal with Chinese battery maker

(Xinhua)    15:23, August 01, 2019

SYDNEY, Aug. 1 -- Australian Lithium miner, Altura, has signed a five year supply deal with Chinese battery maker Guangdong Weihua Corp, the company announced on Thursday.

Under the five-year binding offtake agreement, Altura will supply 50,000 dry metric tonnes of lithium to Weihua per year.

Guangdong Weihua is the fourth Chinese firm to sign a deal with Altura, joining Ganfeng Lithium, Lionergy and Shandong Ruifu.

"Weihua has established operations in China and demonstrated the ability to both mine and process battery precursor materials," Altura Managing Director James Brown said in a statement.

"We welcome the Weihua partnership and look forward to a successful and long-term relationship."

Earlier this week Altura reported solid production figures for the recent quarter, producing 42,402 wet metric tonnes of spodumene concentrate, a key ingredient in battery making, which has improved the previous quarter's figures of 29,627.

The first shipment under the new deal is scheduled to depart in August.
