LIMA, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The 18 crew members of a Japanese flag fishing vessel which was on fire were rescued, the Peruvian Navy ( MGP) announced Tuesday.
The fire on the "Kenyo Maru 18" ship was brought under control by emergency units of the MGP along with patrols from the Peruvian Army and the General Fire Brigade.
For precaution reasons, the ship, located at some 18.5 kilometers from external bay No. 2 of Callao port west of Lima, was towed to a distant place from the bay. Protection barriers were put around the vessel before eventual fuel leakage to prevent the fire from reviving and to avoid impact on the traffic of other ships.
The MGP is investigating the cause of the accident and so far no one was reported to be seriously injured.
