ATHENS, June 6 (Xinhua) -- A Greek diplomat confirmed on Thursday that a Greek national is among foreigners detained by Turkish authorities for their alleged participation in the ongoing anti-government protests in Istanbul.
According to Turkish media reports a total of eleven foreign nationals, including Americans, British, French, German, Iranian and Indian citizens have been apprehended on charges that they have assisted in organizing the protests.
In a statement to Greek national news agency AMNA, Greece's consul general in Istanbul confirmed that a Greek citizen has been detained, rejecting media reports that a person with a Greek diplomatic passport is amongst the detained.
The Greek diplomatic mission in Istanbul has offered legal assistance to the Greek student who is in Turkey under the European "Erasmus" student exchange program.
